From the First Presidency: (Not a complete transcription -- but it's close): "We encourage Church members worldwide to prepare for adversity in life by having a basic supply of food and water and some money in savings. We ask that you be wise as you store food and water and build your savings. Do not go to extremes; it is not prudent, for example, to go into debt to establish your food storage...
We encourage you to store as much as circumstances allow." The First Presidency
My circumstances allow a greater degree of preparation, so I feel the importance to get more than 6 months. I believe that my inactive family members will be grateful that I have prepared for them too.
Joyce, I noticed your post for the first this morning so I am late coming to the table. Because I have spent months in researching who the faces are behind the “Deep State”, I understand the work that goes into it, so I can truly appreciate your research and would like to contribute to the forum.
Thus, I begin with my take on the seven years of famine and possible need to provide for it. As mentioned in Matthew24:7, the signs of the Savior’s Second coming are likened to birth pains. Birth pains don’t change in nature but only in intensity which is the case with the signs or tribulations. The first 3 1/2 years of tribulation is the beginning of the birth pangs, I.e. the earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding, fires etc. we Are already experiencing. So believing the same would hold true for famines, I checked to see, if they had increased during the last 3 1/2 years and found an article that stated, “After decades in which famines had declined almost to the vanishing point, 2017 and 2018 have witnessed their disturbing return, Which according to the timelines are around the beginning of the first 3 1/2 years. Of course, like all the others they will increase in intensity in the next 3 1/2.
Since latter-day Saints are urged to have at least a three month supply of food, water and a 72 hour kit lead’s me to believe this might be to get us through the predicted Civil War around the election, and what it might portend. And if Jody is correct, and I hope she is, that prior to the beginning of the last 3 1/2 years of the greater tribulations, which is around the end of this year or the beginning of next year, the faithful will be translated. I’m thinking whatever food storage the faithful leave behind could help save family members, neighbors and friends not yet translated.
Joyce, I was thinking about your post a bit more today, as I posted a new article with Jodi Stoddard's new presentation.
There is some thinking that perhaps the Saints who leave their home and gathered together, may be nourished somehow, similar to how Moses and the Israelites were fed. For this, we look at Revelation 12 verses 6 & 14.
6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
It may be spiritual nourishment, physical or both. In "Coming of the Lord" by Gerald N. Lund, there are several references between this latter-day group of Zion and Moses and the Israelites.
Regardless, it's always best to over-prepare than under! And, of course, always prayerfully to know what specific things your family needs.
Sorry I took so long to answer. I didn't get a notification that this question was created! I'll change my notifications...
That's an interesting question. I would think for many people, a one year storage is already very difficult so it definitely shouldn't be required. I cannot quote it right now (I've been pretty busy lately) however, I believe the longest period of time that has ever been suggested by the Prophets is about 6 months.
Then there's the matter of practicality. I know that there are the hard-core prepper's, and I think if they want to go all-out, then I don't see why not. However, if the food is not rotated correctly then that is a ton of food and money that will go to waste. I also personally think that most food will not have such a long shelf-life unless it is (perhaps) freeze-dried or specially made for long-term storage.
As a matter of need, personal opinion here, I do not believe that the Prophets would recommend about a 6 month food storage when we actually needed a 7 year storage. If we look at the timeline of the tribulations/great tribulation plus how close we should be to the start of that 7 year period (for those who haven't read, check out "Timeline of the Seventh Seal" under "Timeline" in articles or "The Super Shemitah & 2021 Events" about the 7 year famine), then a 7 year storage will not do us much good.
By that I mean this: Lets say that next year we leave our homes, gather together "in our stakes" to be safe from the world BEFORE the Super Shemitah begins (about Sept. 2021), you wouldn't be able to physically carry all 7 year's worth of food storage, even with several hand carts, presuming we will not have vehicles. With that date a little more than a year ahead of us, you wouldn't have time to use it either.
